Allison Smith

Pennsylvania Chamber Orchestra
Pennsylvania State University Graduate Teaching Assistant

BM (Grove City College)

Allison began her musical studies on violin at age five, in addition to studying piano beginning at age seven. She credits the influence of her high school violin teacher and God’s guidance in leading her to pursue music after participating in the TMEA All-State Orchestra for two consecutive years made her realize what an important a role music played in her life.

During her undergraduate career at Grove City College, Allison was thoroughly immersed in the Music Department as concertmaster of the Symphonic and Chamber Orchestras, a member of the choirs and bands, and the first violinist of the string quartet. Outside of the Music Department, Allison helped to lead a weekly Hymn Sing for students across campus.

Allison is currently pursuing a MM degree from the Pennsylvania State University as a student of James Lyon. As his teaching assistant, she provides weekly lessons to several undergraduate students of varying majors, while also maintaining a private studio of ten students ages 5-13 on piano and violin. In the School of Music, she is involved in the Philharmonic and Chamber Orchestras, Baroque Ensemble, and Graduate String Quartet.

Quick to become involved in a musical community, Allison is a section violinist in the Pennsylvania Chamber Orchestra and frequently subs for the Altoona Symphony Orchestra and Williamsport Symphony Orchestra. Outside of music, Allison enjoys cycling, knitting, and cooking.
