Dr. Elizabeth Robertson is Principal Oboe of the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and Consortium Instructor of Oboe at the University of Evansville, where she performs with the Harlaxton Quintet and teaches applied oboe, music appreciation, global music, writing, music theory, and class piano, as well as woodwind ensemble and pedagogy courses. She also performs frequently on oboe and English horn with Orchestra Kentucky. She has previously performed as Principal Oboe of the Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra, the Owensboro Symphony, and the Lancaster Festival, and has substituted with the Louisville Orchestra.
Elizabeth grew up in Michigan and started taking piano lessons at age 6. She received a Bachelor of Music in Oboe Performance and a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Mathematics from Michigan State University, both with high honors. She holds a Master of Music Performance and a Doctor of Oboe Literature and Performance from Indiana University in Bloomington. Her primary teachers were Richard Killmer, Daniel Stolper, Marc Lifschey, and Theodore Baskin.
Elizabeth was the 2nd place winner of the International Double Reed Society Fernand Gillet Competition in 1991. She released her first solo album, Oboe Serenade, in 2010, and she received the Artist of the Year award from the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana in 2012. As a member of the International Double Reed Society, she has performed at IDRS Conferences and has co-commissioned several new compositions for oboe and chamber ensembles. Elizabeth taught oboe and theory at the Csehy Summer School of Music in 2017 and 2021. She and her husband, Brent, live in Evansville and have one daughter, Isabella.
