Brian Reichenbach

DMA (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign), MM (DePaul University), BMus (Wheaton College)

Brian Reichenbach has led a diverse career as a trumpet-playing musician, teacher, and conductor.  He currently teaches secondary music at Kigali International Community School (KICS) in Rwanda, where he directs one of the only school band programs in the country.  In addition, he is the conductor of Injyana Orchestra, Rwanda's only orchestra.  Together with his wife, Christy, and their family, they are exploring various ways to increase access to music education in East Africa through their work at KICS, their local church, and various organizations in the country.

Before moving to East Africa in 2024, Brian established himself as a versatile musician for over twenty years in Chicago and then in the Chattanooga area.  Brian has performed as a member of the International Chamber Artists, Lincoln Park Brass, Elmhurst Symphony, Eurobrass, and with ensembles including Chicago Sinfonietta, Chattanooga Symphony, Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, Quad Cities Symphony Orchestra, Millar Brass, and Chorale de Kigali.  Brian continues to perform in Kigali and collaborates with concert organist Rhonda Sider Edgington as Great Lakes Duo and others.  Together with his students at KICS, Brian will perform this summer at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall

Before serving in Rwanda, Brian held various roles as a professor and conductor at Lee University, Trinity International University, Olivet Nazarene University, and College of DuPage.  Brian received a DMA in Trumpet Performance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he studied with Ronald Romm and Charles Daval. Previously, he studied with John Hagstrom at DePaul University and Terry Schwartz at Wheaton College.  Brian grew up in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, studying trumpet with Steve Heitzer and Ken Benjamin, and attended Csehy Summer School of Music while in high school.  He may or may not have met his wife, Christy, there when she was also a Csehy camper.  They serve in Rwanda in partnership with B2theWorld.
